The next 'thing' I wanted to fill you in on, is a basic necessity of Vitamin D especially this time of year. We all know about Vitamin D and healthy bones, but what other benefits are there? How about to help decrease or prevent future colds and flu. Many in my circle of friends and health professionals are on the bandwagon of good old Vitamin D. In this instance it's the Vitamin D3 that is getting all the attention. I can tell you I sell out of it at my Doctors weekly. And since it's such an easy addition to your daily regime I wanted to let you in on something that can make a big difference this winter. Pill or powder form (ask me about the powder great for kids or adults alike), face it Vitamin D is worth supplementing this winter. Not only does Vitamin D3 show promising studies on helping prevent flu and other health complications, it also is known for it's role in helping with SAD. It has been suggested that seasonality and the symptoms of SAD may be due to changing levels of vitamin D3, the hormone of sunlight, leading to changes in brain serotonin.
And I don't know about you, but feeling more upbeat also sends a message to our immune system, thus strengthening it, as well. So I see it as a win win! Blood tests can be taken for Vit D levels...but the research I've seen states approximately 5000IU for adults daily who are not in the sun..and for children about 1000 to 2000 IU daily, depending on weight. Feel free to do your own research. Great article by the way...
